I am 1000 percent in the ambivalent holiday club. I wish I had answers, but I’m muddling through. It’s a really hard tension to hold my children’s delight and excitement and my desire to make things memorable for them alongside my equal desire to skip the whole thing. And usually it shows up in my body and I end up flat out sick at least once in December (like today) 🤦♀️
P.S. If you’re looking for more diverse book selections for homeschooling you’ve got to check out Heritage Mom — Amber Johnston O’Neal. Her book, “A Place to Belong” was very challenging but a good read.
Yes, Annelise! I also just feel like my body kind of shuts down sometimes this time of year. 🫠 I love how you explain holding the tension of your children’s delight with our own twisty emotions. I feel that so much. And thank you for the rec... eager to check it out!
I recently started Lessons in Chemistry (the TV series!) and I agree with you! I liked the book, but didn't love it. And I'm enjoying the show way more than I thought I would!
1. My unpopular opinion is that I'm always here for a good listicle. 2. I also did not love Lessons in Chemistry (the book) the way everyone else seems to. It was good. It was fine. I don't get the ZOMG raving about it. *shrug* 3. I've been looking for a good heating pad and that one is GORGEOUS.
Lol thank you for appreciating the listicle. I feel v supported. :) And yes...with the book....I kept waiting for it to get better and it just....was meh? The heating pad used to be sold at Patina, so maybe they still have it! I got it last year.
Well this was a refreshing read. On the cookbook front, start with the orzo pasta! I think it’s listed as a side dish but I add Italian sausage and make it a real dinner 😉 if you’re into baking, the honey fruit scones are 💯

Krista I cannot express how much I loved this. I really needed to read this. Thank you. My parents separated seven years ago and I still feel ambivalent about holidays (which I feel is progress from being an utter Christmas grinch).
I also could not finish the book of Lessons in Chemistry. It frustrated me no end. Glad to hear the show is better.
Ahhh, Bec. Thank you for sharing this with me. I truly think SO many people feel ambivalent around the holidays/family gatherings but it’s not talked about nearly enough! I’m so happy this was helpful to read. ❤️

I loved the listicle💕 so helpful for someone who is just learning about self regulation
I’m so glad Jill! Thanks for reading!

Ahh I’m so glad I’m not the only one who thinks so! The show just feels sooo much more well rounded for some reason!?
