I watched Tick... Tick... BOOM so quickly after it first came out, and I still think about it often over a year later (or is it two years?). There is something so comforting about knowing the struggle and perseverance of someone's story before their success. And Larson's story is so devastatingly tragic in the end. They did a great job honoring him in that one, I can't get over it.
Oh my goodness, yes to everything you are saying here! I agree wholeheartedly. The creative’s struggle and the determination/insecurity/insanity? that goes along with the work. Incredible. I can’t wait to watch it again.
I *knew* I liked you when I met you at the Exhale retreat... ;) Um, I have so many feelings about this... about writing "again" about God when it's been too painful to even breathe the same air as (some of the) people you used to worship with / admire / fill-in-the-blank. And yet, to where else can we turn?
I really connected with how you named those catchphrases meshing together and causing you to cringe. It was a very (self-)alienating experience when that first happened to me.
I'm thankful you shared your thoughts here and I'm looking forward to reading more of your work!
P.S. Also, I can relate to having had many a "flump-da" (our word for flop) on the bed complaining to my husband about my doubts and spiritual confusion.
Lisa! I'm so glad I met you at the Exhale retreat. I'm grateful these words connected with you so deeply. It can be a super alienating/painful/ experience and it's been helpful to me to find others to walk alongside me. Really honored to be one small part of that for you too. That's always my hope. And I'm going to need to add "flump-da" to my vocabulary now! Love it!
This was beautiful and vulnerable. Thank you for sharing. 💛
Oh, thank you, Bec. Thanks for taking the time to read.
You are right, I am fascinated by this article, Krista shared a piece of herself. It's so sweet.
So good. Loved the AW Tozer rewrite ;)
Lol possibly just the tiniest bit offensive to rewrite it but also so satisfying haha. :)
